The image in this ad is very successful at showing what the company wants viewers to see, however the type is not as helpful as the image. Just from the image you get a sense of what is going on. When you look at the type you have to look at it for a second in order to understand it due to the way it is presented in the ad. First I notice that the people in the picture are enjoying themselves, and then I notice that he has a remote in his hand, which makes u think they are watching TV or a movie. The light on their face and shadows behind them also backs up that theory. Finally I will discuss the type to help understand what this piece is about.
I feel that the text could have been placed in a totally different way and that the break in the words was unnecessary and makes it harder to read. When I try to read it, I want to read the entire left side first and then read the group on the right, however you are suppose to just read it regularly from left to right. I understand what they were going for with the words around his head, as if he is thinking those words as he is watching the movie, but if the breaks in the text were in different places or if the type was just over his head it would be more successful.
I like xbox 360 so it would make me want one. I also didn't like the text in the ad. I feel that it just didn't fit the picture.
ReplyDeleteI like the simple colors but I was not able to tell what kind of ad with just a look of it. but then I see "Xbox" and "netflix" at the bottom. This does not leave much impression as a poster.
ReplyDeleteWell I agree, the broken text is a problem. From my observation of my kids with xbox, that is not what they're doing with it. It is usually a game. We have netflix and watch it with a computer wired to our T.V. I do recognize the remote to be an exbox type and I do get that they are watching a movie. My generation would not automatically think exbox. So the adds target market has to be the younger generation, which leaves our a large portion of the population. Maybe this is not to wise a use of marketing dollars to bury the product in such a way. Why not have the camera pan over the image of the exbox at the teens watching the T.V. Then whats happening is easy to understand. The kids watching a T.V. is too broad and the text story is ambiguous when it is broken like that. I will say the color choices used work very well. The green is the exbox color and we all love a good black and white photo. The black and white represents the emotion of it being a timeless event that happens in every household.
ReplyDeleteThe broken text confused me for a little bit, but once I figured it out the whole ad made sense to me. This ad is pointing more towards the movie and TV part of the XBOX experience, trying to reach out to the people that might not be "gamers" but actually people that enjoy entertainment as a whole. The XBOX is becoming more of a home entertainment system then a game console.
ReplyDeleteThe text really threw me off for a minute; it took several attempts to read it before I understood that the viewers were supposed to ignore the gaps. Aside from that, I rather like it. The message is fairly straightforward and the gray-scale with the few pops of color in the text are a nice compliment to it.
ReplyDeleteThe text is confusing but the bright green against the high contrast black and white image capture your attention. Most people that can afford this item will probably take the time to try to deciper it because the text is like a puzzle and therefore related to the subject, the xbox, and is relevent to the ad.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the text being confusing and awkward to read. I like the color scheme and style they use for the image. There is one huge issue for me tho. While most of the picture is various shades of gray the woman's arm band is a nice shiny black. It just stands out too much and is too distracting. I think that she did need some kind of band on to cut the long white are of the arm but the armband chosen was far too shiny and black.
ReplyDeleteI Like this this ad. I have played x box but its just a nice little reminder about the netflix on it.
