In our text it sates that, emphasis gives prominence to a design and is used to attract attention and conceptual impact. I feel that this photo shows emphasis in three different ways. The first emphasis is shown by isolation, which is when part of the design stands out from the rest of objects in the photo, almost as if it doesn't fit in. I feel that isolation is best shown by how the box separates each bottle, but the one with the red top is more isolated than the others because it stands out and is placed in the middle. The second emphasis is shown through placement, this emphasis is similar to isolation because the focal point is relatively in the middle. The importance of the piece is that the focal point attracts attention to the eye, and from the focal point it is as if the piece is expanded. The final emphasis is shown through contrast, however we do not see contrast through size or shape because the bottles appear to all be the same size. Yet there is a contrast in color, it appears that the piece is in black and white, except for the focal point which leads the eye directly to it.

I think that this design uses emphasis very effectively. The monochromatic background and sense of isolation help the colored focal point to stand out, and its placement in the center adds to this effect. I also like that the logo on the top of the bottle is white, adding its own slight contrast with the gray cardboard to the piece.
ReplyDeleteThis image does uses a few techniques to communicate emphasis to the red capped bottle. The bottle, in addition to having a red cap, has a symbol which immediately attracts us to this object. The symbol will then make us question what company is adverting and what the product is... like a puzzle.
ReplyDeleteThis image reminds me of the number of umbrellas with the one red umbrella. This is an awesome picture. The red cap also draws my eye immediately. This image show an awesome example of emphasis.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Miigan's comment, who is the company advertising this? The design by emphasis is very direct and would be easy to understand if I knew what the red cap meant. I guess if you knew this, it would be obvious and the target audience does know the symbol. It is also using a grid as well. Nice clean photo.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great example of emphasis. The first thing that got my attention was the red color, which right away gives emphasis to that certain bottle. Not only the red bottle becomes the focal point because of the color, but its position where is at(right on the center)establishes more emphasis. Placement is very important when you want to give emphasis to a certain element, and this photo has everything about emphasis. The bottles are all in unity, until we see the red one, which breaks the patter; anything that seems different always gets our attention and we give more emphasis to it. Its hard to ignore change, so a bright color can definitely give more emphasis to an element in a image or composition. Good job...you picked a great photo that explains and shows emphasis. -Ivan-
ReplyDeleteGreat post and comments about isolation. As others have said the red color of the cap really makes it just stand out and draw the attention because it is so different of the others.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cool image. The bottle is isolated because they are all separate but, to me, it looks shorter. Because it's different it attracts my attention. Also the brightness of the red seems to be a way to emphasis anything.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this piece shows emphasis by isolation, placement, and contrast in color. I really like the use of monotony for the other bottles – the washed out colors of the box and the black tops – then the bright red and white top with the arrow. It really makes that bottle stand out! I also like the placement – almost in the center but slightly forward with the arrow pointing forward. It gives the idea that the piece is about progress? Is it an advertisement for a company? And color, red really attracts attention in the sea of grays and black. Cool piece and nice analysis.
